Paul Hoffmann Obituary

Paul Hoffmann
February 17, 1939 - December 25, 2018
Resident of Glendale, New York for over 40 yrs.
Paul was born on February 17, 1939 to Henry and Katherine Hoffmann. He was raised in
Ridgewood, New York. He was a proud graduate of Grover Cleveland High School. After High School and few odd jobs, Paul was drafted into the United States Army in April of 1963. While proudly serving, he learned drafting and mapping. When he wasn't performing his military duties, He was known to enjoy a German beer house or two where he would try to practice his army German lessons on innocent German civilians.
After being honorably discharged, he returned to New York. After a few jobs in the drafting field, he would go onto work for the New York City Department of Sanitation (Clerical Division) for 32 years. It was during his first year on the job while taking a training class and test that he would meet his future wife Joan Sauer. After a two-year courtship, they would be married on May 10, 1975.
While with the department, he was a member of the Emerald Society and the Steuben Association. He would serve as the President of the Steuben Association for many years. The annual Steuben Association picnic in Eisenhower Park was a highlight of the summer for the family
While many people would call it a day after coming home from an 8hr or more work day, Paul would spend his evenings and Saturdays working part-time at Joe's Deli on Myrtle Avenue in Glendale, NY. He was well liked by the regular customers from the neighborhood. He would go on to work at the deli with his eldest son, Robert, on Sunday mornings for a time.
When not working, Paul was a lifelong Mets fan. His love of the Mets would start after his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers moved to Los Angles. He also was a lifelong Jets fan. He was known for his singular sense of humor and being quick with a joke.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Joan Sauer Hoffmann, son Robert and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hoffmann, son Paul Thomas Hoffmann, and sister Eileen Hoffmann.
He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter Katherine and grandson Andrew Hoffmann.
Paul was preceded into death by his parents Henry and Katherine Hoffmann, his brother Henry Hoffmann and his wife Nicolina Hoffmann, and his brother Joseph Hoffmann.
