Edward McFadden Obituary

It is with great sadness to acknowledge the death of Mr. Edward J. McFadden, current Board Member and former President/CEO of Isabella Geriatric Center. Mr. McFadden passed away in New York City following a long battle with cancer. During his 25 year tenure, Mr. McFadden made a significant and lasting contribution to Isabella. His vision and leadership helped to bring about Isabella's status as a leading long term care organization. His concern for the dignity and well-being of Isabella's residents coupled with his active involvement in community issues distinguished his leadership style. Edward J. McFadden began work at Isabella as an Assistant to the Controller in 1973. Before becoming President in 1992, he served as Associate Administrator and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Under his leadership Mr. McFadden supervised a major $62 million renovation and expansion project. In addition, he expanded Isabella's commitment to community service by establishing a long term home health care program, a child day care program, the Health Careers Partnership (now Caring Partner Program), and the Institute for Older Adults ( 50+ Club and Walking Works Wonders Programs) and assisted in the development of the Drum Hill Senior Living Community in Peekskill, NY. Mr. McFadden was active in state and national organizations such as the New York State Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA) where he served as Vice Chairman and the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA). He also served as Treasurer of the Audubon Partnership for Economic Development. In 1994, AAHSA awarded Mr. McFadden and Isabella Geriatric Center the Hobart Jackson Social Responsibility Award. In the spring of 1997, NYAHSA presented Mr. McFadden with its highest honor, the Lawrence E. Larson Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the care of the elderly in New York State. In 2007, the Latino Gerontological Association honored Mr. McFadden with its Humanitarian Golden Age Award. In addition to his wife, Josephine, Ed is survived by his two grandchildren, Michael and Kristine Greco, their father, Martin Greco; his cousins, Jane Grim, Charles, and Thomas Schnepf; as well as his two step-sons, Charles and Ronald Moore, and their families, including Lola, Betty, Jason, Jessica, Dante, Dijon, Domenique, and Devante. He also left behind numerous other loved ones. He was predeceased by his only daughter, Kathy McFadden Greco. A memorial service honoring Mr. McFadden's life will be held at Isabella at a date to be announced. The family of the late Mr. Edward J. McFadden has requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his name to either: Edward J. McFadden Scholarship Fund Isabella Geriatric Center 515 Audubon Avenue New York, New York 10040 or Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center 1275 York Avenue New York, New York 10065
